Rom comes back to comics this year courtesy of IDW. I did pick up the FCBD issue last month, and it was okay. I'm still on the fence if I'm going to pick up the regular series. I liked the Marvel series by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema when I was a kid, and it's a testament to both creators' talents that Rom still has a large fan base decades after the original comic ended. If you're so inclined, information on how to help Bill Mantlo with his medical bills can be found on billmantlo.com.
Unlike the idw series, this cover art as a concept as well as from a visual art stand point is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThanks! There was nothing wrong with Rom's original design. I don't know why they had to mess with it. Also, I tried the first few issues of the IDW series... it wasn't to my liking.
DeleteI’m glad to see we’re on the same page about that to Reno. I’d like to add this piece to what I think will be a farewell posting on a Rom centric blog I would ofcourse also include a link to your blog with it. Are you cool with that? http://romspaceknightart.blogspot.com/?m=0
DeleteSure, that's cool. Although I'm a bit sad to learn that you'll be discontinuing your Rom blog.
DeleteBefore I started that blog over 8 years ago I hardly had any idea about the enduring fan base for Rom thanks to the internet. I didn’t even know about the accident with Bill Mantlo back then or about the art auction fund raisers for his medical needs. So much has changed since then when it comes to all things ROM and I feel like I’ve done everything I could for the legacy of the greatest of the spaceknights. Not sure when I’ll do that final posting but it won't be any later then October 1st. Either way I’ll let you know when it’s published.
